Time for Rest

Hello Dear Ones,

I hope you’ve had a happy holiday if you’re in the US and are enjoying the seasons change if you’re elsewhere in the world!

As the holidays are upon us now, I wanted to share with you a little bit about a powerful type of rest. There are ultimately 7 forms of rest according to Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith. In her book Sacred Rest, she shares that our body needs physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, sensory, and creative rest. I’m going to share more on those down the line.

Heading into a season that is often overwhelming and stressful, I want to zoom in on social rest. Most of us will have opportunities for deep connection with loves ones in the coming month if we allow ourselves to slow down, create the time, and be present.

Social rest is all about finding comfort in our relationships and social interactions. We experience this restfulness when we experience true connection with others. In these spaces, we’re free to show up authentically and vulnerably and are safe to be ourselves.

Some people naturally feel that way with the people they spend the holidays with, and some may feel more isolated or lonely even when surrounded by others.

Who in your life makes you feel safe to show up as yourself? Who helps you feel refreshed, accepted, and at ease after spending time with them?

Spending time with people we can truly connect with helps balance those social interactions that might zap our energy a bit. So, what plans do you have with the people who give you energy in the next month? (If you don’t have plans with them yet, this is your sign to make some!)

Some tips for social rest this season are:

  • Prioritize face-to-face time

  • Listen and learn

    • Bring your curiosity, ask questions, and listen to what is happening with others in your life

  • Nurture your need to connect

    • Prioritize time with people you can have REAL conversations with

If healthy relationships and boundaries are something you struggle with, know you’re not alone and you don’t have to struggle with this on your own. Reach out and schedule time to chat with me here for free to see if I can help. I have tools and experience helping people show up more authentically in their lives so they can embrace who they are and how they want to show up in the world.

Wishing you a restful month ahead dear ones!

With love and kindness,

Jessica

P.S. In January I’m launching my new program for people who want to break free from the loop of diet culture and achieve a healthy relationship with food and their bodies. I specialize in working with people who’ve struggled with patterns of emotional and binge eating. If you’re ready to let go of having others tell you what to do with your body, this is the place for you.

I’ve got a few spots open for clients to start the first week of January. If this resonates with you, let's determine if this program is a good fit for you during a free consultation!

P.P.S

The fun thing I’m doing to take care of myself has been to prioritize social rest over the past week! I’ve had two social nights out with friends that filled my cup tremendously and helped me remember why it’s so important to prioritize this time. Happy connecting friends!
