Distractions
Hello, Dear Ones,
I am writing to you today from a place filled with love and rainbows <3
I was doing my morning reading today from a book I read every morning, A Mindful Year, and I felt so moved to share this message with you. The authors talked about cultivating awareness of what draws you from your center. In my last letter, I talked about our energy bank accounts, and I believe this idea fits with that.
There are so many things in our lives that can distract us from the activities that make deposits into our energy bank account. Now that it’s summer, and I am in the midst of traveling, there are moments I am easily pulled from the activities I know help me avoid overdrafting my energy.
Some of those activities for me include taking time in the morning for reflection and mindful time alone to set the tone for the day. When I am traveling, it becomes easy to dive into connection with others and skip the pause to connect with myself.
I know that when I spend time with these practices, I bring a better version of myself to the interactions I have with others later in the day.
The authors of my morning reading describe that some of the things that get in the way of meaningful connection can be overscheduling our time, being glued to our phones, and putting on emotional armor that can inhibit true connection with others.
I love this thought from one of the authors, “I often wonder why we ever leave that which nourishes us. If connection feels so good, why do we knowingly walk away from our center?”
I wonder, dear reader, what helps you best connect to yourself, and what are some distractions you experience that pull you away from that connection?
I have a theory on this I’m mulling over, for now. In the meantime, if you feel like you are struggling with connecting to your center, or would like a little support in creating accountability for yourself to stay tuned in to your energy, connect with me here.
As always, thank you for being here with me and allowing me to be a part of your journey to becoming your best self. I’m here for you, and I see you.
With love and kindness,
Jessica
P.S. I have been truly leaning into my strength of appreciating beauty for the last couple of weeks, and it has been making some hefty deposits in my energy bank account. I love being in nature, and I have been soaking in and truly appreciating the moments I have had on the beach and in the mountains. I’ve always loved taking pictures but I often save the most beautiful moments for myself by saying a mental *click*. I’ve included a couple of my recent favorite moments at the top and bottom of this message.
I’ve also been soaking up the beauty I see in the people I have been spending my time with. I am feeling tremendously grateful for the magical humans in my life and the connections we have made, and so blessed to be able to have time to spend together. I hope you are spending some time appreciating the beauty within and around you, my dear ones.
