One Powerful Word
Hello, Dear Ones,
We are heading into 2022 in a matter of days now. I’m not much for resolutions anymore; history has shown me they don’t particularly work well for me. Last year, however, I found something in the neighborhood of resolution that was a better fit for me, and I would like to share that with you.
This time last year, as I was reflecting with a couple of my close friends, we all decided to choose a word that would be like a mantra or theme of the year. My word was “Stay.” I knew that there would be a lot of fear and challenge to face in the year ahead with graduating and starting my business. I didn’t want to chicken out or run away from the hard things that were going to be required of me. I knew I wanted to be the kind of person who would stay through the hard and make this work because this is what I want to be doing.
I believe that when we are looking at the clean slate of a new year, we are tempted by the messaging coming from so many directions that this is the year we lose weight, workout every day, or become “that girl” (who even is that girl?). I am here to tell you, you already are everything you need to be. Perfect as you are. An imperfectly perfect human. A person that is hopefully growing and changing as they choose, to be the person they are and want to be.
If choosing a word appeals to you, or is something you feel called to do, consider these questions: What is something that will get you closer to being the person you want to be, that best version of yourself? If you have been thinking about making a resolution for this year, what does that resolution say about you as a person? How does it align with the person you are or who you want to become?
The point of choosing one word to focus on is to keep it simple for yourself. It doesn’t need to be specific, measurable, or anything else. It just needs to feel right for you. Maybe it is a word that helps you feel more connected to your purpose or something you’re passionate about. Or maybe it’s a word that helps you cultivate more mindful awareness or clarity on your intentions with behaviors and actions.
If you feel stuck when choosing a word, reach out to me and I would love to support you with a free 30-minute coaching session. Also, please feel free to share your fabulous words in the comments below (if you're on the blog) or by responding to this e-mail. I would love to hear from you!
Wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year! Cheers to you gorgeous!
Jessica
PS. The fun thing that I am doing this week to take care of myself is some extra reflection! I took some time in my journal to do a fun little manifestation activity. I wrote a holiday letter to myself. I have never written a holiday letter to send out and never felt the desire to. However, the idea of writing one for future me to look back on sounded pretty great. So I spent some time describing for myself some of my best and most important moments of the year. Then, I wrote a letter to myself pretending it was a year from now. This helped me get clear on what I am looking forward to in the next year, what I am excited about, and what I should prioritize. I kept it pretty light and vague for myself, mostly searching for what I want to feel and what feels most important to me in the next year.
PPS. Here is something I love and have started a tradition of listening to each year around this time (I personally believe John Green is a bit magical):
